Ms. Oakley's English One Class Project on "The Cask of Amontillado"

Ms. Oakley’s English One class just completed a unit on “The Cask of Amontillado,” a short story written by Edgar Allen Poe. They began with an inquiry PowerPoint project on the history of Italian Carnival, including food, costumes, masks, then and now, and a study of the catacombs of Italy. Students made their own carnival masks. After reading the short story, groups completed mock police investigations using text evidence. They used this information and a little creativity to write news story scripts. Groups then filmed their “Breaking News” reports. The unit culminated with students wearing their masks and enjoying the Italian carnival treats they prepared.

Hula Hoop Dance Club

Led by Mrs. Catherine Owens, Hula Hoop Dance Club is a fun activity for all ages. Members will learn many different on-body and off-body tricks, which keep their bodies moving and grooving, to fun, upbeat music. The club is an after school club running from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm. All students and faculty are allowed to join.

Law Enforcement Speaks to 7th Graders

Long Middle School along with Chesterfeild County Sheriffs Department hosted an Awareness Knowledge Builder Session for our seventh grade students. The Speakers were Officer Burns, Major Davis, Corporal Myers,Lt. Jordan, and Chief Deputy Coroner, John James
