Karen Ellerbe, Principal

I have been in education for approximately twenty years.  I worked fifteen of those years at Cheraw High School, as a CATE teacher (Algebra and Probability and Statistics teacher for one year), Cheer/Track coach, National Technical Honor Society Advisor, Teacher of the Year, HSTW Committee Team leader, and quite a few more committees.  I began a new chapter when I agreed to serve as the Assistant Principal at Cheraw Intermediate School for two years.  After those wonderful years at CIS, I transferred to Long Middle School to be their Assistant Principal.

Family is a vital part of my life. I have been married for eighteen years to Christopher.  We have two children:  Ian (16) and Makayla (14).  With football, soccer, basketball, and competitive dance as extra-curricular activities for our children, there is never a dull moment in the household.  I am thankful for supportive parents that assist with travel when we are overbooked!

One of my favorite quotes in education is “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” by William B Yeats.  That quote alone speaks volumes about what we, as educators, should be doing to fulfill the needs of our children in the classrooms.

I am thrilled to be working at LMS as Principal!  I am looking forward to collaborating and fulfilling the needs of the administration, faculty, staff, children, parents, and other stakeholders in the community.  I believe it is imperative for a faculty/staff to work together as a team in order to be successful!   Together, we make a difference!
